Containerboard: US stocks hit eight-year high for August as mills run at almost 100% rate

OAKLAND, Sept. 20, 2013 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -US containerboard inventories jumped by nearly 147,000 tons in August as mills ran at close to 100% of capacity despite sluggish box shipments, according to the latest Fibre Box Assn (FBA) and American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) statistics earlier this week.

Containerboard: IP plans $100+ million upgrade for its Rome, GA kraft linerboard mill

OAKLAND, Sept. 20, 2013 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -International Paper (IP) plans on spending $100-150 million to upgrade its linerboard mill in Rome, GA, to "modernize operations" in three different phases over the next three years, the company told a local development authority in northwestern Georgia.


Smurfit Kappa to close Mittpac corrugated box facility in Sweden

BRUSSELS, Sept. 20, 2013 (RISI) -Smurfit Kappa has started negotiations with employee representatives with the aim of shutting down its Mittpac box factory in Bräcke in northern Sweden. The move may affect 10 employees, and is being attributed to reduced volumes as a result of a decrease in demand in the area.
