Smurfit Kappa to start up lightweight recycled containerboard PM in UK in late February

BRUSSELS, Jan. 15, 2015 (PPI Europe) -Smurfit Kappa Group (SKG) is nearing the completion of its £100 million ($152 million) investment in lightweight recycled containerboard at its Townsend Hook mill in the UK.

The mill's revamped 5-m wide PM is set to be launched in the second half of February, the firm said.

MWV to separate paper business from chemicals

SAO PAULO, Jan. 13, 2015 (PPI Latin America) -MeadWestvaco Corporation (MWV) announced on Jan. 8 that its board of directors approved a plan to fully separate its specialty chemicals business from the rest of the company. The move will result in two independent, publicly traded companies, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

US containerboard production jumped 6.9% in December on strong exports

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 15, 2015 (RISI) -US containerboard production jumped 6.9% in December helped by strong linerboard exports, according to the latest American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) statistics.

This brought total containerboard production for 2014 to 35.4 million tons, up 1.8% from a year ago.
