Fire hits Swiss paper and paperboard converter Karton + Papier AG, production unit unaffected

BRUSSELS, Oct. 14, 2014 (RISI) -Fire broke out in Karton + Papier AG (KAPAG)'s woodchip warehouse on the evening of October 8 in Muhen in Switzerland. No injuries were reported and the production unit was not affected, managing director Alexander Meyer toldRISI.

Smurfit Kappa to expand position in North America TAPPI/AICC show told

Smurfit Kappa Group (SKG) is "determined to grow its presence in North America," the company's VP of corporate development Luis Martinez told TAPPI/AICC Corrugated Week attendees in Long Beach, CA, on Sept. 29. SKG is Europe's largest containerboard/box producer and a major player in the Latin American market. The company accounts for about 17.4% of European containerboard capacity and 18.4% of box production. It now produces about 1.0 million tonnes of containerboard and boxes in the Americas with operations in about 10 countries, including Mexico.
