Current conditions for U.S. containerboard, corrugated boxes and boxboard

U.S. corrugated box shipments increased to 30.9 billion square feet (BSF) in October, after adjusting the data for seasonality and working days. This was the highest monthly figure in two years. Shipments were roughly 3 percent higher than the year-ago level for the second consecutive month, a remarkable achievement since “flat” was the word used most often to describe the box market during the first eight months of the year. Cumulative shipments through October were 0.6 percent higher than the year-ago level.

Gains will be driven by a rebound in manufacturing output and continued expansion of the overall economy.

KapStone union officials expect workers to reject final contract offer in vote on Dec. 17 at Longview, WA, mill

VANCOUVER, WA, Dec. 16, 2014 (Local News) -About 800 union employees at the KapStone Paper and Packaging mill in Longview, Washington plan to vote on the company's final contract offer starting Wednesday.

Union officials with the Association of Western Pulp and Paper Workers said they expect employees to reject the contract.
