Smurfit Kappa to expand position in North America TAPPI/AICC show told

Smurfit Kappa Group (SKG) is "determined to grow its presence in North America," the company's VP of corporate development Luis Martinez told TAPPI/AICC Corrugated Week attendees in Long Beach, CA, on Sept. 29. SKG is Europe's largest containerboard/box producer and a major player in the Latin American market. The company accounts for about 17.4% of European containerboard capacity and 18.4% of box production. It now produces about 1.0 million tonnes of containerboard and boxes in the Americas with operations in about 10 countries, including Mexico.

Box shipments pick up in September and inventories drop 53,000 tons, but some see price pressure ahead

OAKLAND, Oct. 17, 2014 (PPI Pulp & Paper Week) -US box shipments rose 1.5% on an average-week basis in September while containerboard inventories dropped by 53,000 tons, according to the latest industry statistics.
